Drinking water companies extract water from the earth, or from rivers, river banks or dunes. To produce drinking water, Vitens uses mainly groundwater. Water that once reached the ground through precipitation or was carried along by rivers and eventually seeped into the ground.
Once inside the ground, the water completes a lengthy underground journey to its current position from where we extract it. The soil acts as a filter so that most of the water is of good quality by the time Vitens extracts it from the ground.
