Sustainability
Nature and the environment are important for Vitens. This is why we do everything possible to protect flora and fauna in our water extraction sites. Vitens is responsible for supplying its customers with sufficient top-quality drinking water. That means that we have to ensure we have reliable wells, for the future, too. Sustainable water extraction is a very important part of this.
We protect water extraction sites to prevent pollutants getting into our raw material. We also look to the future; we aim to keep our wells clean and safe for the decades ahead.
Innovation
A large drinking water company like Vitens is constantly developing knowledge. Vitens is continuously monitoring developments in the world around us and immediately seizes on the latest developments. This ensures drinking water of the highest possible quality now and in the future.
We are constantly seeking to improve water purification processes. For example, we are investigating new possibilities for softening or decoloring water. We monitor drinking water quality in our state-of-the-art laboratory.
Besides guaranteeing water quality, we also never cease working to improve the efficiency of our purification plants. We therefore always try to maximise the use made of the water that we pump to the surface. This ensures that Vitens's operations are becoming increasingly sustainable. We are constantly on the look out for ways to save energy or to use green energy and to minimise the use of chemicals.
Vitens works with knowledge institutes, government bodies and the business sector to expand knowledge of water extraction, purification and distribution. We are also pleased to share our knowledge with other countries. The Netherlands is a worldwide authority on the water sector and will only be able to maintain its position in the future through continuous innovation.
