How much water do you really need?
Knowing your shower time helps you save water
Put your phone in a dry spot near the shower, press ‘play’, and let the sound keep track of the time for you. It makes your shower not only more relaxing, but also more mindful. That way, it’s easier to turn off the water a little earlier. Just one minute less can save about 7 litres of water. Just as refreshing — but a little shorter.
This is how it works:
- Put your phone in a dry place near the shower.
- Press ‘play’ as you step into the shower.
- Let the sound keep track of the time for you. The experience lasts 6 minutes. Every minute, you’ll hear a signal. This way, you know how long you’ve been in the shower, and it’s easier to shower one minute less.
- Relax — and save water at the same time!

Do you want to save even more water in the shower?
-
Skip a shower now and then.
Ask yourself: do I really need a full shower today, or could I freshen up with a washcloth? It’s quick, effective, and better for your skin. Plus, you’ll save water — and shampoo and shower gel too.
-
Turn down the water flow.
You need less water than you think to enjoy your shower. Try it — a gentler stream feels just as nice.
-
Turn off the water while soaping up or washing your hair.
Especially when the bathroom is already warm. It might take some getting used to, but you’ll quickly see how easy it is.
-
Try a colder shower.
A degree or two colder, or even cold, often makes you shower shorter without thinking about it. And it’s a super fresh way to start your day.
